St Clare of Assisi was born in Assisi, Italy, in 1193 (about twelve years after St. Francis). While St Francis was born into the new middle class, St Clare was born into a wealthy Italian family, but soon shunned her luxurious upbringing to embrace the life of piety and poverty. Inspired by the words of St Francis of Assisi, St Clare fled her home and joined St Francis, establishing her own religious order.
St Frances of Assisi was an Italian mystic and Catholic friar who founded the religious order of the Franciscans. He is also associated with patronage of animals and the environment.
They were good friends and both were determined to live the life of Gospel poverty.
